WHAT IS AYURVEDIC MEDICINE?
Ayurvedic Medicine is an ancient healing system developed in India more than 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda wants to find the balance in all the body systems and promote the good health of people. The main aim isn’t to fight diseases, but nowadays a lot of people use Ayurveda Medicine to treat different type of diseases. In Sri Lanka, it is practiced along with Sri Lankan traditional medicine.
The word Ayurveda comes from two words: Ayur, which means Life and Veda, which means science of living.
Accodring to Ayurveda, each person is made of five elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements are combined with three energies, called “doshas”.
Vata Dosha: Space and Air
Pitta Dosha: Fire and Water
Kapha Dosha: Water and Earth
Every person is a mix of the 3 Doshas and, normally, one is stronger than the others. The main goal of Ayurveda is to balance the Doshas in order to avoid people to get sick, as it is believed the unbalanced of them can develop health problems.
WHAT CAN AYURVEDA TREAT?
Ayurveda medicine treats not the symptoms of a disease, it searches the root of the problem in order to heal the person and strengthen the immune system, the mind and the spirit of the person as a whole entity.
Ayurveda works under the philosophy that mind and body are connected to each other and to cure a disease both have to be taken as a whole.
